A highly skilled tennis athlete with excellent leadership skills and a strong understanding of the psychology of the game and players, Arturo has been teaching and coaching at Rancho Valencia for 15 years. Bilingual in English and Spanish, his effective and energizing communication technique nurtures young students by teaching self-control, courtesy, skills, passion, motivation, and good sportsmanship.
Originally from Guadalara, Jalisco, Mexico, Arturo earned his BS in Dental Science at the University of Guadalajara. He started playing tennis as a junior and honed his teaching and coaching skills providing motivational and aspirational tennis instruction to underprivileged children from 2000 to 2005 in Guadalajara before immigrating to San Diego in 2005 and becoming a US citizen in 2008.
Arturo currently teaches and coaches players competing and winning at both the State, National, and International circuits. He assists in the planning, training and coordination of Rancho Valencia’s adult and junior players with great attention given to their enjoyment in addition to their personal skills development. He enjoys teaching the basics to fine-tuning highly-skilled adult and junior players alike. Sponsored by Wilson and Head since 1982, Arturo is a past doubles champion and is a doubles clay specialist, optimizing players’ skills on Rancho Valencia’s red European clay courts.
